Privacy Policy

This site does two different things with data, and they deserve separate answers. The calculators transmit nothing. The contact form does transmit what you type, to a third party. Both are described below.

The calculators: nothing is submitted

Every figure you enter into a calculator on this site — 1099 revenue, business expenses, W-2 wages, filing status, mileage — is processed entirely in your own web browser by JavaScript that is already on the page. There is no server-side calculation, so nothing is submitted anywhere when you type or when a result appears. We do not store your calculator inputs, log them, or receive them. Close the tab and they are gone.

One detail worth spelling out, since you should not have to discover it. A calculator can pre-fill itself from the tail end of a web address — the part after the #, like #gross=90000&expenses=12000 — so a page you bookmark reopens with the same figures in it. That part of an address is called the fragment, and browsers do not send it: everything from the # onwards is stripped off before the request leaves your machine, so figures written there do not appear in our host's or our CDN's access logs. The tax calculators also write such a link, but only when you press Copy a link to these figures under a result: it puts your current figures after the # and places the link on your clipboard. The calculators do not send it anywhere or save it in your browser's history; it goes where you paste it. If you send it to someone, the numbers are inside the link and the person you send it to can read them.

We cannot recover your calculator inputs for you, because we never had them.

Theme preference

We store one value in your browser's localStorage under the key theme, recording whether you chose light or dark mode. It stays on your device, is not a cookie, and is not transmitted to us or to anyone else. Clearing your browser's site data removes it.

The contact form: what is sent, and to whom

Our contact form is delivered by Web3Forms, a form-to-email service operated by Web3Creative. When you submit the form, Web3Forms acts as data processor and Kordal Systems is the data controller. We do not operate a mail server of our own, which is why a third party is involved at all.

What is sent. Two things, and the second is easy to overlook:

• The fields you fill in — your name, your email address, the subject you select, and your message — plus two hidden fields the form needs to work: a public access key identifying our account, and an empty anti-spam field. No calculator figures are included; the calculators are not connected to the form in any way.
• Technical metadata that Web3Forms records itself, which you never type. Their Data Processing Agreement lists this as "technical metadata such as IP address, timestamp, and referrer information", and the schema their submissions API returns also carries the browser user agent and the address of the page the form was submitted from.

Why. Solely to deliver your message to us as email so we can read and reply to it. We do not use contact-form submissions for advertising, profiling, or any mailing list, and we do not sell them.

Where it goes. Web3Forms both forwards your submission by email and stores it. Their disclosed infrastructure is Amazon Web Services (hosting, database, and email delivery via Amazon SES), Cloudflare (content delivery and edge security), and Hetzner (application infrastructure, in Germany and Finland). Web3Creative states that it operates from India and that data may be processed in multiple regions, with Standard Contractual Clauses applied to transfers out of the EEA, UK and Switzerland.

Spam screening. Web3Forms uses two external spam-prevention services and lists both as sub-processors, so assume a submission is screened. Their policy states: "The IP address and email address of form submitters may be sent to these platforms" — naming CleanTalk and Akismet, a service of Automattic. So submitting the form also discloses your IP address and email address to those two companies.

Retention. Web3Forms' privacy policy states that form submission data "is retained for a maximum of three years from the date of submission, after which it is automatically deleted, unless a shorter period applies to your plan or you delete it earlier", and their DPA describes a three-year time-to-live on stored submissions. Separately, we keep the email itself in our own mailbox for as long as we need it to handle your enquiry.

If you would rather not involve a third party, write to feedback@MySETaxCalc.com instead — email sent to us directly does not pass through Web3Forms.

Analytics

We may use privacy-respecting, cookieless analytics to understand aggregate page traffic such as page views and referral sources. No personally identifiable information is collected by those analytics, and they do no cross-site tracking. That is a statement about analytics only — the contact form is covered above. If and when analytics are enabled, this section will name the provider.

Cookies

This site sets no cookies of its own. It carries no advertising and loads no advertising scripts, so no ad network sets one either. The one thing kept on your device is the theme value described above, which is not a cookie.

Your rights

The calculators do not submit your figures, so there is nothing for us to access, correct, export or delete on that side. For anything you sent through the contact form, or by email, you can ask us to delete it — contact us at feedback@MySETaxCalc.com and we will delete our copy and ask Web3Forms to delete theirs.
